Radio (Feat.Kara Berry)

Thursday Mar 24, 2022

Thursday Mar 24, 2022

The movie that almost made Jordan quit the show! That's right, we're talking 2003's Radio. A Golden Raspberry nominee and somehow 2X NAACP Image Award winner. We're joined by the wonderful Kara Berry of the Everyone's Business (But Mine) podcast to discuss...whatever this was.
We get into everything going on with Cuba, on and off screen, if Radio was turned into a mascot, and the real life story James Robert Kennedy (the man had a name). And as for that song we were alluding to...

On Part two, we get into this research. All the Oscar drama, the change of heart years later by Academy voters, Morgan Freeman being behind the "yess'ums" and some spicy takes by the writer and director. Also, Shar discovers Super Mario Brothers the movie and maybe the highest level of Caucacity we've seen thus far.
Shar is incredible and you absolutely need to follow all that she's doing. @sharsayso will get you all that sweet social media content, and the website will give you all her incredible writing and other work.

You know this one had to be two parts haha! On this episode we get to one of the white whales of the show, the infamous 1989 Best Picture winner, Driving Miss Daisy. Not only did this movie beat out Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing (which wasn't EVEN nominated for Best Picture) but it set a precedent years later for movies like Green Book!
We're joined by the supremely talented Shar Jossell to discuss all the "yess'ums", the polite racism, and how in the world anyone thought these two characters were "friends."
Shar is incredible and you absolutely need to follow all that she's doing. @sharsayso will get you all that sweet social media content, and the website will give you all her incredible writing and other work.

Guilty or not guilty? That is the question. We're looking back at a classic this week as we discuss 12 Angry Men with the wonderful Daejah of Daejah Talks TV.
We get into a bunch of different topics. Is this movie just a white liberal fantasy? Would it make a difference if there was a Black person on the jury? And we also talk a little TV!
Daejah is all over the internet @Daejahtalkstv but especially check out their TikTok which has everything from reviews of Euphoria and The Batman to social and cultural criticism.

We're diving back into science fiction with today's movie, 1994's The Air Up There, because there's no way in hell you're going to have me believe that a 5'9, bum knee having, pushing 40, washed assistant coach at a DII school is cooking people like this.
We're joined by the homie Brent of the Home Video Hustle podcast to discuss this flight of fancy. Aside from, again, how we don't believe for a second that Kevin Bacon wouldn't have been on skates this whole movie, we talk about more of that classic Disney© racism, who the best fictional white basketball player of all time is, ,and the real life story of what happened to the actor who played Saleh.
Many thanks to Brent for joining us. You absolutely need to check out the Home Video Hustle podcast. It's hilarious and the range of movies is crazy as well. You never know what to expect (shout out to Rollergator).

Basmati Blues (Feat. Rush Kazi)

Thursday Feb 17, 2022

Thursday Feb 17, 2022

Have you ever wondered what a half assed Bollywood clone by one of the writers of See Spot Run with songs by a member of Pearl Jam about genetically engineered rice would be like? Well have no fear because we're joined by the hilarious Rush Kazi to talk about the bewildering 2017 musical, Basmati Blues.
How? Why? And why? These are just a few thoughts you might have had when you heard about this movie. We try our best to get into why anyone agreed to this film, what is even happening with the music, and the wild behind the scenes stories.
Many thanks to the wonderful Rush Kazi for joining us. Please show them all the love by following them on the socials (@rushzilla on Twitter and @rush.zilla on IG) and if you happen to be in the Toronto area, check out a live show!

We're getting you ready for Super Bowl Sunday with a Hall of Fame white savior film, 2009's The Blind Side. That's right, we got a Hall of Famer in the house! Joining us to talk about it is the super talented Dylan "CineMasai" Green of The Reel Notes podcast.
We talk about if the Michael Oher of this movie is even a real person, Sandra Bullock threatening to get the strap like Bishop in Juice, what the real Michael Oher thinks of this film, and alternate film titles.
We also debate who the best rapper/actor of all time is!
Dylan is really out here doing outstanding work. This guy actually got to interview the elusive Mach-Hommy for Pitchfork! He also put out this incredible review of Little Brother's classic The Listening. On top of that he hosts the Reel Notes podcast which explores the line between rap and film with various filmmakers, rappers, and more (like Flying Lotus). Be sure to follow him @CineMasai_ on Twitter for all the happenings.

It's a Boriqua affair on this weeks episode as we're joined by the wonderful Rosa Colón Guerra to talk about the wild 1990 made for TV movie, A Show of Force.
Starring the likes of Amy Irving, Andy Garcia, Lou Diamond Phillips and Robert Duvall, you wonder how so many talented people got duped into this terrible movie. We discuss the actual Cerro Maravilla murders the film is based on, Andy Garcia taking a comical bite out of a snow cone, and introduce some prime caucacity.
Also, Cameron watched the wrong movie...
Rosa is terrific and you should follow all of the stuff she has going on! Follow her @sodapopcomics and check out her website https://rosacolonguerra.com/ for all the updates.
And as always, you can follow us @white_pod and write to us at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We'd love to hear from you with suggestions for movies, guests, and what we should do for our first piece of merch! We'll be back next week, be easy and Happy Black History Month!

Won't He do it? And by he we mean Djimon Hounsou who makes his third appearance on the show in 2017's Christian drama, Same Kind of Different As Me.
Did we expect this movie to have a slow motion sword fight between a little Black and white kid dressed in Klan robes? No. Did we expect a wild ass dream sequence? No. How about whatever accent Djimon is doing? But the lord works in mysterious ways. There's a lot going on in this one but we do our best to break it all down.
