An announcement (Don’t Panic)

Wednesday May 17, 2023

Wednesday May 17, 2023

DON'T PANIC!
Hello friends! We've been at this thing for almost 2 years now, no skips, and we love doing the show. However, it's a lot of work on our end putting things together on our own. So in the interest of not burning out and keeping things going, we'll be taking a little summer break.
DON'T PANIC
What this means is there won't be any regular episodes as you know them in June and July, but that doesn't mean we're ghosting you. Jordan will be around with some guests to talk about some white savior films coming out this summer, including Guy Ritchie's The Covenant, as well as non white savior movies like Into the Spider-Verse 2 and The Little Mermaid.
We'll also be doing some live watches (more info once we figure out where and when) and we'll try to have some more fun surprises in the interim.
So one more time, no need to panic. Podcast will return in full this August, but until then, check in with us at @white_pod on Twitter and email us at whitepeoplewontsaveyou@gmail.com
Be easy, take care of yourselves, and we'll be back soon!

Resurrecting The Champ

Wednesday May 10, 2023

Wednesday May 10, 2023

On today's episode, we discuss a movie with the most baffling and boldly caucastic finale we may have seen so far. 2007's Resurrecting The Champ is your typical "based" on a true story nonsense, until the final 15 minutes...
Josh Hartnett does zero journalism, almost tanks a major newspaper, lies to his wife and son nonstop, but somehow he's the one who ends up better off than he started and the icon Samuel L. Jackson dies alone in an alley. Make it make sense!
We're closing in on 100! Let us know what movie we should watch to commemorate the occasion and who you'd like us to try and have on. Hit us up at @white_pod and whitepeoplewontsaveyou@gmail.com
We'll be back next week with a look back/forward at Dune and a breakdown of the latest trailer.

Ahhh the 90's. Super Soakers were soaking, MTV mostly played music videos, and a former cocaine mule turned snitch turned comedian was headlining TGIF. And at the height of his powers, Tim Allen and Disney joined forces to deliver one of the worst movies of the decade, 1997's Jungle 2 Jungle.
We're joined by the amazing Katt and Jaz of the Girl That's Scary podcast to break down the foolishness of Tim Allen and his son "Cat Piss". Why did Disney feel the need to remake this film twice? How do you not get divorced after 13 years? And why does Tim Allen want to say a certain racial slur so badly?
We loved having the incredible Jaz and Katt on and you absolutely need to subscribe to GTS immediately. Equally entertaining and informative, even if horror isn't your thing.
We're coming up on 100 episodes and we need your help! What movie should we watch? Who should we talk to? Hit us up at @white_pod or at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com with your picks!
We'll be back next week with Resurrecting the Champ.

The Klansman (1974)

Wednesday Apr 26, 2023

Wednesday Apr 26, 2023

TW: This is a capital E exploitation film an there's a lot of sexual violence to get through.
What the hell did we just watch? A mess of a movie that stars Lee Marvin, Richard Burton, and the film debut of OJ Simpson. Buckle up because this one is...wild.
We discuss what, if anything was the point of all this, the unfortunate parallels to current politics, and justice for Willie Washington. Also, white people doing the most in the 3rd level of caucacity this week.
We're nearing our hundredth episode! What should we watch, who should we talk to? Let us know at @white_pod on Twitter and at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com
We'll be back next week with the crew of Girl That's Scary to discuss Tim Allen's trifling ass in Jungle 2 Jungle.

Today, a movie that proposes "what if you could fuck around...and never find out." 2007's The Last King of Scotland tells the story of a fictional white man who joins up with infamous Ugandan dictator Idi Amin and does just that.
We're joined by the always on point Aramide Tinubu to discuss just how absurd the idea of Amin going to Nicholas to make decisions is, what the hell was going with Kerry and Forest's make up was, and just how many times can you sleep with your boss' wife before being hung by meat hooks?
Aramide is prolific in these critic streets. You can find her work on Shadow and Act, Indie Wire, Essence, and Tudum just to name a few. Check out her website here, and follow her on Twitter @awordwitharamide and Instagram
And as always you can follow us at @white_pod and hit us up at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com Our 100th episode is coming up, so let us know who we should try to have on the show and what movie we should watch!

Clear eyes, full hearts...wait no. We fight for that inch! No, sorry. Left side! Strong side! That's the one!
This week, we return to the gridiron as we discuss the 2000 Disney hit, Remember the Titans. We're so happy to be joined by the wonderful Aisha Harris (Pop Culture Happy Hour on NPR and author of the upcoming Wannabe: Reckonings With the Pop Culture That Shapes Me, in stores June 13th) as we get into this and try to move past the nostalgia.
So much to discuss, like Blue the human needle drop, the plethora of well meaning white people, and how much of this true story is even true?
Aisha is a tremendous voice and guide through the world of pop culture, so you absolutely should be following on Twitter: @craftingmystyle and on IG: aha88. And go here to preorder her book which is sure to be one of the must reads of the year! And of course, check out Pop Culture Happy Hour on NPR Tuesday - Friday.

Ernest Goes to Africa

Wednesday Apr 05, 2023

Wednesday Apr 05, 2023

*Exasperated sigh* Where do we even begin. Jordan had never seen an Ernest movie until now, and boy what a one to start with.
The movie is so bad we spend the first 30 minutes talking about a completely different topic (creating complex BIPOC characters) but eventually we do get around to talking asking the real questions. Like...what is Ernest's deal? Were 3 different instances of brown face necessary, and where in the hell is "Central Africa"?
Find us on the Twitter at @white_pod and at whitepeoplewontsaveyou@gmail.com We'll back next week with Co-Host of Pop Culture Happy Hour Aisha Harris discussing Remember The Titans.

The time has finally come for us to go back to where it all started. It may not be the first, but 1962's To Kill a Mockingbird is without a doubt the grandfather of all white savior movies.
That's why we brought in the hilarious Skyler Higley (Conan, The Onion) to help us get to the heart of why this film (and book) still endure. We answer probing questions like is Atticus Finch a good white man, why did Tom have to die for Scout to learn a lesson, and what exactly is a chifforobe?
Also, we talk Chapelle/Chris Rock and the white gaze in entertainment.
Skyler is one of the funniest comics performing today and you should absolutely be on the look out when he comes to your town. Like tonight (March 30th) he'll be in Salt Lake City performing at Wiseguys Comedy. Also follow him on Twitter (@skyler_higley) and IG (@skylerhigley) and his website!
And as always, you can follow us on Twitter at @white_pod and hit us up at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We'll be back next week with...*shudders* Ernest Goes to Africa.

John Carter (Feat. Mellow Brown)

Wednesday Mar 22, 2023

Wednesday Mar 22, 2023

$350 million? For this? That's right, this week we're talking the disastrous (both financially an critically) 2012 Disney film, John Carter. Not of Mars, or anything else. His name is his name.
We're grateful to be joined by the super talented Mellow Brown (Blade Runner: Origins) to get into what exactly went wrong. Was it the red face? The thinly veiled Civil War allegory? The totally confusing plot devices?
We also chat about the importance of Black voices in science fiction.
Mellow is crushing it right now. Blade Runner Origins from Titan Comics is available wherever you get your books. You can also catch his work on Station 19 on ABC, Calls on Apple+ and American Gods on Starz. Follow Mellow on Twitter @Mellowmarketer and his website at https://mellowmarketing1.wixsite.com/mbrown
As always, you can find us at @white_pod on Twitter and at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We'll be back next week with the OG of all this, To Kill a Mockingbird.

MY BALLS!
Seriously, where do we start with this one. When we found out there was a Steven Seagal movie where he saves indigenous people from an evil oil company owned by Michael Caine, there was only one person to call. Brent from Home Video Hustle returns to guide us through the Seagal-verse and the 1994 environmental thriller, On Deadly Ground.
A fever dream of a film, Seagal literally fights a bear, survives multiple explosions, drowns Michael Caine in oil, and gives a 10 minute speech on environmental dangers and the wonders of electric cars.
Follow Brent at @hvhpodcast on Twitter and check out the show wherever you get your podcasts!
As for us, you can find us at @white_pod and hit us up at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We'll be back next week with Disney's John Carter.
